Free mock interview practice

Three interview questions, answered out loud — no account, no card. You get a written report of what your answers actually contained: filler words, pace and pauses, which of the four STAR parts were there, and where a number went missing.
No percentage. No level. No comparison with anyone else.

How a round works

  1. Pick a question — Choose from the question bank, or paste the job ad and we ask the questions that fit that role.
  2. Answer out loud — Speak the way you would in the interview. Up to 3 minutes per answer; 1–2 minutes is usually enough. Pauses are data too.
  3. Read the report — Under a minute later you get the transcript with every filler word, pause and STAR part marked, plus a short list of concrete things to change.

You do not have to finish the round. “End and see my report” sits under every question, so you can stop after one answer — or mid-answer — and read what you have so far.

What the report shows

From a real practice answer

Filler words 7 ("um" ×4, "like" ×2, "you know" ×1) · Pace 138 wpm · Longest pause 4.1s · STAR: Situation ✓ Task ✓ Action ✓ Result ✗

Why out loud — and not another page of sample answers

Reading a strong answer feels like progress. It is recognition, not recall: the words are in front of you, so nothing has to come from you. In the interview there is no page.

Almost every weak answer is weak in ways you only hear when you say it — the forty-second setup before anything happens, the decision nobody actually made, the story that ends before the result, the “um” every fourth word. A transcript of your own voice is hard to argue with, and that is the whole idea.

What it costs

If English is not your first language

SayDrill is built for people interviewing in English as a second language. We never judge your accent, and we do not comment on pronunciation: either you are understood or you are not, which is a different question from how you speak English.

What we count is what every interviewer hears anyway — filler words, pace, structure, and whether a number showed up.

Questions people ask before they start

Is the mock interview really free?

The first three questions are free, with no account and no card. After that you can buy a pack of 3, 5 or 12 questions. There is no subscription.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. You grant microphone permission when you record, and nothing is stored on your device afterwards.

Do you tell me whether my answer was good?

Not in the sense of a mark. You get counted facts — filler words, pace, pauses, which STAR parts appeared, how often a number appeared — and one or two things to change. The judgement about whether an answer is good enough belongs to the interviewer, not to us.

Who hears my recording?

It is sent to our speech-recognition provider to be transcribed, then deleted. It is not kept and it is not used to train anything. The details are in the privacy policy.

Can I stop in the middle and still get a report?

Yes. Every question has an “End and see my report” button, so you can stop after one answer or in the middle of one and read a report on what you have answered so far. Answering the rest later keeps the same run open.

Which questions will I be asked?

A round mixes questions from our bank — 49 questions across eight skill areas — and, if you paste a job ad, questions built for that role. You do not pick single questions — the set is built to cover the ground, so you are not rehearsing only the parts you already like.

Does this help outside tech roles?

Yes. The eight areas we probe — communication, teamwork, prioritisation under pressure, spotting and solving problems, learning agility, learning from setbacks, self-driven initiative, and goal setting — are the ones most interviews are built around, whatever the industry.
